Early career

Retirement distributions can be confusing for clients and preparers alike. This webinar breaks down tricky codes on Form 1099-R, Distributions From Pensions, Annuities, Retirement or Profit-Sharing Plans, IRAs, Insurance Contracts, etc. Using unusual case studies, you’ll learn practical tips to reduce costly filing errors. We’ll focus on what Form 1099-R, Box 7, really implies and how to map codes to the correct forms like Form 1040, U.S Individual Income Tax Return, and Form 8606, Nondeductible IRAs. We’ll look at where preparers often misstep, including rollovers versus conversions and recharacterizations versus excess contribution returns. We’ll also cover Roth distributions, the new reporting codes for qualified charitable distributions, loan defaults and death situations. With plenty of examples to support the theory, you’ll gain new insight into a familiar form.
